Open Sky Agreement

Hundreds of thousands of protected birds have died due to electrocution along power lines in recent decades. The Hungarian Ornithological and Nature Conservation Association (MME) has organized five national power line surveys since November 2004, during which a total of 2,183 bird carcasses were found at 19,216 poles examined.

Bustards and overhead lines

Medium and high voltage power lines in their habitats pose a particular danger to bustards, and every year a few specimens fall victim to collisions with the lines. Between July and early October 2023, 5 bustards fell victim to the Montág meadow in Csongrád-Csanád county, which is a significant part of the 25 specimens living there.
