Bird-deterrent devices have begun to be installed on high-voltage power lines in Hortobágy. MAVIR is placing the Delta Light device on the lines because during the autumn bird migration, it sometimes happens that bird species with larger wingspans – such as cranes – collide with high-voltage power lines and die, the Hortobágy National Park Directorate writes on Facebook.
The device works by using energy from the force field around the wire to emit pulsating light in the ultraviolet range, which is clearly visible to the bird’s eye. The installation of the Delta Light does not take place under everyday conditions either; it is placed on the wires with a drone specially developed for this purpose.
The national park says the second phase of work is expected in the coming weeks.
